Student Rights under FERPA - The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act

FERPA is a federal regulation enacted in 1974 that protects the privacy and confidentiality of student education records. Under FERPA, institutions may not release a student's education record without prior consent of the student, except in limited circumstances. FERPA applies to all schools that receive funds under an applicable program of the U.S. Department of Education. Students should learn more about FERPA and their rights under the act.
