Schedulers Meeting Presentation

March 14, 2022

Hello,

Attached is the PowerPoint we shared this afternoon and here is the recording. So...this is the first time we've recorded one of these and let's just say we're not very good at it. Sorry we couldn't hear some of you when you were trying to talk to us. We evidently had our volume down really low to not create feedback and couldn't hear you. FYI, when you record a Zoom it will also create a transcript for you and I guess my name comes over as "trophy in America." We've had a good time cry laughing about that this afternoon. I'd suggest not reading the transcript. LOL!

Some of the questions you asked were about queries. Here are the ones that I couldn't remember the names to:

  • PE_SR_CRSE_CONTROLS_VALIDATION-this will show you any course controls or reserve capacities that are on your classes
  • PE_RP_CLASS_MISSING_PAY_DTL- this will give you a list of classes missing their pay detail
  • PE_SR_NO_WORKLOAD- this will give you classes missing a workload

At one point the Scheduling WorkCenter was brought up. For those of you not familiar with that, you can find that by going to Penn State WorkCenters-Student Records-Class Scheduling WorkCenter. This has a list of navigations that are used for course scheduling and it also has a tab full of queries that are related to class scheduling.

There was a question about the difference between course controls and reserve capacities. Both are used as a form of enrollment control and both have to be requested by using the course control form found on our website.

Course controls-these roll and are used to control all of the seats in your class. These typically do not get removed after enrollment begins. You can find these by going to Curriculum Management-Schedule of Classes-Adjust Class Associations (Class Requisites tab).

Reserve capacities-do not roll and are used to control a specific number of seats in your class or they can control all the seats in your class for a certain time period. These can be found at Curriculum Management-Schedule of Classes-Maintain Schedule of Classes (Reserve Cap tab)

In this example, they are saving 150 seats (out of 726) for students with a semester classification of 001-002 from 2/24/22 to 8/22/22. When 8/22/22 rolls around, if there are any remaining seats of the 150 they held, they will be open to any student with any semester classification.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Have a good evening!
