Summer 2020 COVID Instruction Mode Directions

April 16, 2020

I am writing with updated information related to COVID-19 and the transition to remote learning for summer 2020. To ensure that PHEAA grant recipients, GI Bill® recipients, and International Students are not inadvertently affected by changes in LionPATH, we have created two new instruction modes (COVID-Web and COVID-Remote) and a new Facility ID (Zoom) in LionPATH. All courses that were on the summer schedule as in-person courses must be updated using these new categories. Guidance for these updates is as follows:

  • In-person courses for Summer 2020 must be updated as either:
    • COVID-Web (CW) = courses that were scheduled as in-person, but are shifting to fully online, asynchronous courses due to COVID-19. The Facility ID should be changed to Web and the meeting times/days should be removed.
    • COVID-Remote (CR) = courses that were scheduled as in-person, but are shifting to remote synchronous delivery (at least one synchronous meeting per week) due to COVID-19. The Facility ID should be changed to Zoom and the times for the synchronous portions of the course should be listed.
  • Courses that were already scheduled as WEB courses for Summer 2020 should not be adjusted
  • Courses that were already scheduled as Hybrid courses for Summer 2020 should not have their instruction mode adjusted, but their Facility ID should be changed to Zoom and should include the times for the synchronous aspects of the course

For detailed instruction please see the COVID Instruction Modes.

We will be communicating with students about what these various changes mean for them. As part of this communication, we will let students know they can expect the changes to take place over the next few weeks and to be completed by May 1, 2020. Please do make these updates by that deadline.

We are also communicating with CAOs and UP Department Heads to ensure they are aware of these changes and that you will need their support and collaboration to collect instruction mode information from the faculty.

Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to esmail@psu.edu or call 814-863-3677.
